Abstraction Lyrique

Abstraction-Lyrique was the European equivalent of American Abstract Expressionism during the 1950’s. Evolving from Georges Mathieu and Camille Bryen’s “Tachisme” , the movement sought to give uninhibited expression to the human subconious, and included artists such as, Pierre Soulages, Jacques Germain, André Lanskoy, and Vieira da Silva.
