Gauthier: Pioneer of Abstraction Lyrique

Born in Nièvre in 1921, Oscar Gauthier graduated from the Beaux-Arts in
Paris in 1947 and approached abstraction in 1948 becoming one of the principal exponents of post-war Abstraction Lyrique. From then onwards numerous solo exhibitions at the avant-garde galleries established his reputation. This double exhibition explores the universe of Oscar Gauthier, rich in colour and movement. The “L’avant-garde” at the Palais Ducal, and “L’énergie” at the Musée des-Beaux Arts de Nevers.
